Viraban Ointment is used for the prevention and treatment of cold sores. The herpes simplex virus causes a cold sore to appear and being 'run-down' makes you more vulnerable to cold sores. Viraban contains an antiviral (acyclovir), which treats infections caused by viruses. Viraban can also help shorten the healing time of cold sores already visible. Start treatment as soon as you feel the tingling that indicates a cold sore is developing.

Viraban should be applied five times daily at approximately four hourly intervals. It is important to start treatment as early as possible after the start of an infection. Treatment should be continued for 5 days. See a doctor if symptoms persist after 10 days.Always wash hands before and after use to prevent re-infection.

Do not use on mucous membranes, eyes, inside mouth or vagina. Genital Herpes requires urgent medical attention.
